Khalistan Movement Website

For my online exhibit I’ve been thinking about breaking it into around eight parts. The introduction will include a brief overview of the khalistan movement and show the importance of understanding it in its historical and cultural context. I will also lay out the objective of my online exhibit in the intro which is obviously to shed light on the Khalistan movement. I am going to center my first part around origins and historical context. This section will include a historical background of the Punjab region. Also how the Sikh identity emerged and its importance. The last thing in this part will be the factors that lead to the demand for Khalistan. My next main area of focus will be the ideology and leadership of the Khalistan movement. The key figures and ideological ideas behind the movement will be included in this part. Also the role of religion and nationalism in shaping the movement. Some of the other major sections that I am considering are political mobilization and activism, cultural expression and identity, state repression and human rights concerns, legacy and contemporary relevance. I have been thinking about ideas for how to add an interactive element to my exhibit. Some of my ideas include a link that would give a virtual tour of significant sites related to the khalistan movement, a quiz on the knowledge that provides explanations for the right answers, interactive timelines or maps or infographics. The primary audience for this exhibit is anyone who has not yet been informed or someone looking to gain more information on the Khalistan movement. Amid many other world crises this movement has been in a way swept under the rug and there is barely anything covering it. I want to provide the world with an easy and accessible way to navigate through the khalistan movement timeline and understand the importance and mission of the people. I want people to think about this huge injustice for themselves and hopefully it will impact them to make a change. I want to prioritize showing the need for Khalistan and emphasize why it is so necessary.
